As a member of Local First, you receive:

Advertising

Feature in the Be Local Coupon Book, reach our social audience, and list in our online directory.

Advocacy

We keep you informed. By leveraging our local, state, and national partnerships, Local First works to share and address key issues facing our community's well-being.

Consumer Education

We organize signature events and initiatives — like Noel Night — that connect shoppers with your business and educate the public on the impact of shopping local.

Member Events

Connect with other business owners, nonprofit leaders, and Localists at our annual Member Celebration and throughout the year.

Is your business privately owned (not publicly traded) or operating as a cooperative?

Members are privately owned or cooperative businesses — not publicly traded corporations.

Is the business located in La Plata County, Colorado?

Your business must physically reside in La Plata County.

Do the majority of the owners or directors live in La Plata, Montezuma, Dolores, San Juan (CO), and/or Archuleta counties?

Greater than 50% of the owners or directors with a controlling interest live in the region the majority of the year.

Is the business registered solely in Colorado and independent of any corporate or national headquarters outside La Plata County?

Members are registered in Colorado and independent of any national headquarters.

Does the business have full autonomy over its decisions — including purchasing, operations, distribution, name, and look?

You make your own decisions, right down to the name and look of the business.

Does the business pay all of its own marketing, rent, and expenses without corporate assistance?

Members cover their own expenses without payment to, or assistance from, a corporate headquarters.

Associate Membership

Believe in the movement, but don't qualify?

If you don't qualify for Business Membership but you believe in the values of the localist movement and want to join Local First and our members in creating a thriving, resilient local economy, consider joining as an Associate Member.

Associate members receive the opportunity to sponsor and market at Local First events, inclusion in our online directory, and a way to show your support for the local movement to your customers.
